EDEN VALLEY RAILWAY The Eden Valley Railway is a 2.2 mile (3.5km) standard guage heritage railway running along a part of the former original Eden Valley Railway from Penrith to Kirkby Stephen. The heritage line currently runs from Appleby in Westmorland to Warcop and it is hoped to link up with the Stainmore Railway at Kirkby Stephen some time in the future. The original railway was open to passengers until 1962 and a 6 mile (10km) section from the Settle to Carlise Railway at Appleby continued to serve the army training camps at Warcop until 1989. The Eden Valley Railway Society (now Trust) was formed six years later and began operating ex-British Rail rolling stock along a section of the line in 2006. The railway operates on Sundays from the beginning of April until the end of October and on some summer weekdays as well. www.evr_cumbria.co.ukBACK |
