SLAGGYFORD
Slaggyford Village five miles (8km) north of Alston in South Tynedale. Slaggyford is at the northern terminus of the South Tynedale Railway and the Pennine Way runs through the village on it's route between Alston and Greenhead. The Maiden Way was a 20 mile (32km) long Roman Road connecting the fort of Bravoniacum at Kirkby Thore near Penrith and Magnae on Hadrian's Wall and runs through Slaggyford. The A689 follows the line of the Roman road for a few hundred yards south of the village. Aules Hill Meadows half a mile (800m) west of Slaggyford is a set of four traditionally managed hay meadows and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
